Why fruit at 10 o’clock?

From an early age, you hear that you should eat fruit (and vegetables) regularly.

Rich in vitamins and fibre, fruit helps ward off health problems and is essential for the proper functioning of our bodies.

Why? What fruits are in season? Which ones should you prioritise in the morning or evening? How much should you eat?

Why at 10 o’clock?

It has been shown that the best time to eat fruit is between meals, specifically one hour before. If consumed one hour before, it will aid digestion, help detoxify the body and facilitate weight loss. Another positive aspect is that you will feel like your stomach is “pre-filled” and you will want to eat less.

What about in the evening?

To avoid bloating in the evening (caused by a lack of physical activity or sitting in a fixed position in an armchair, for example), it is advisable to avoid apples and pears. On the other hand, do not hesitate to eat fruits that are high in amino acids, which will contribute to better sleep, such as bananas, dates and mangoes.

How should they be consumed?

There are several ways to incorporate them into your daily routine: fresh, frozen, canned, jarred, cooked or raw, in salads, juices, jams (preferably without added sugar) or why not try a sweet and savoury combination? How about a small lamb’s lettuce salad with salmon, avocado and grapefruit pieces? Having tried it on holiday, I invite you to give it a go next summer! It’s truly delicious.😉

Choose seasonal fruit and consume locally

WINTER: apples, avocados, lemons, clementines/mandarins, grapes, kiwis, pears, etc.

SPRING: apple, pear, mango, grapefruit, rhubarb, blackcurrant, redcurrant, etc.

SUMMER: figs, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, melon, watermelon, mirabelle plums, damsons, etc.

AUTUMN: chestnuts, quinces, hazelnuts, apples, pears, grapes, etc.

In times of crisis, it will be cheaper for you to consume seasonal fruit because it is produced in greater quantities, even though it follows supply and demand. It will also taste better, be of higher quality and have a higher nutritional value.

What’s more, you’ll also reduce your carbon footprint if you consume them locally.
