Vlinder Sofa – A textile masterpiece!
The Vlinder Sofa combines the archetypal form of a comfortable sofa with a custom-made fabric covering similar to a duvet. Developed by Hella Jongerius in an intensive process of material innovation, the concept of the Vlinder Sofa defines a new type of aesthetic. The tactile quality is evident in the textile surface and the exceptionally soft seating comfort.
The textile covering pushes the boundaries of modern weaving technology: eight colours with threads of two different thicknesses make up the different levels of seven different jacquard weaves. The different parts of the covering are woven in a single piece and cut by hand. A multitude of weave patterns, colours and textures come together on the surface to form a choreographed, largely abstract composition, full of density and depth.
The fabric of the Vlinder Sofa is made from yarns with a high percentage of virgin wool, complemented by cotton. Filled with a blend of goose feathers, down and highly functional synthetic strips, the upholstery offers unrivalled comfort. Attached to the body of the sofa with zips, it can be removed and dry cleaned.
